To silence the voice of depression is an important action statement when dealing with this subject matter. Depression is a feeling and mental stage triggered by voices. That voice takes you to a state of being where you begin to feel unsettled. You’re unsettled about your life, your choices, and your relationships. Even the past rears its head to cloud the possibilities of the future. You begin to see everything in the light of your past experiences when you can break away from the past and gravitate towards a glorious future. What nature does depression and its voice take?
Nature of the Voice of Depression
It is an unsettling voice that keeps you unsatisfied, always yearning for what you think you need rather than appreciating what you already have.
It is dejecting, keeping you sad. It always sounds the words of ‘no one loves me, I am good for nothing, I have nothing good to offer, I cannot be accepted no matter how hard I try, I better keep to myself, and so on’.
It is inferior behaving. This voice keeps you ever in despair of what you can achieve. That what you have and can do is always inferior, suggesting that you never attempt it. It also suggests silence as your opinions or words will be debunked or judged. It never suggests or sees good in your actions or undertakings. These voices are inward and heard by the owner. They can be influenced by internal forces therefore they need to be silenced also by internal and deliberate actions. How then can these voices be put under check?
How to Control The Voice
The source of that unsettling feeling, dejection, and inferiority ought to be controlled. They can only be controlled by the truth you feed your mind, heart and spirit; by the actions you take with the truth, and by the company you keep.
- Feed Yourself with Truth: The truth you feed on will keep your depressed soul peaceful. “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report….” Philippians 4:8-9. These are the qualities of things you should feed on. Filter the things you watch, read and listen to as they subtly settle into your subconscious and rear their heads when you are unconscious about your thoughts.
- Think on the Truth: You are a product of your thoughts. “With the mind, you serve the law of God and with the flesh, you obey the law of sin” Romans 7:25. “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he” Proverbs 23:7. Define your reality by your thoughts. Snap out of the depressive thought and embrace a winning mindset shaped by the revelation of God’s word. Personalize this revelation, allowing it to fill your mind, thoughts and actions. Consciously plan your daily and weekly activities to activate the winning thoughts. Note, activities with friends and family may not be enough; there will always be moments when you are alone with yourself. These alone times often determine your reality, so take control of them by being mindful of what you feed your mind and think about.
- Speak and Confess the Truth: “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” Matthew 12:34. What settles in your heart shapes your confession. Allow the truth in your mind to take root in your heart and influence your confession. Let your thoughts and words be uplifting. This journey is progressive and challenging, requiring courage and consistency. Trust God to help and keep your mind and heart at peace from every voice of depression as you consciously cast down every high voice of depression that oppose the truth of who God has created you to be, regardless of your circumstances. These are life investments.
Affirm and Manifest Your Truth
Silence that voice that keeps you depressed. The source of that unsettling feeling, dejection and inferiority. Silence the voice of despair that keeps you depressed, trapped in past failures and disappointments. That voice exists only in your mind, and it’s yours to accept or reject, to reflect it’s negativity or to deflect it.
Silence that voice before it silences your future. Do it before it saps your energy and hinders your divine assignment. All creation awaits the manifestation of the treasure within you, but that voice tells you there’s nothing to manifest. Silence it. Silence it.
Will you? There’s a voice calling out to you – a voice louder than that unsettling one. A voice of hope and affirmation, grace and grandeur. Will you let that voice resonate over the negativity, lifting you out of the mire of life and setting your feet on a higher pedestal, thus washing off the dust that hides your shine?
You are not what that voice suggests. You are royal; a prince or princess, valued by the King, beautifully and uniquely made. The King’s voice is calling out to His princes and princesses: Hear the voice of our King: J-E-S-U-S.
No one has been treated more inhumanely than He was. His own people disbelieved and rejected Him, criticized and scorned for who He was. Betrayed by those He loved, yet He did not let negative thoughts hinder His purpose. He stood firm in His identity.
You can do it too. He shared His mind with us, saying: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Me (Philippians 2:5). You can have His mind too!
